Speed is electronically controlled with the turn of a knob.  Range: 70 to 2800 RPM.  Automatically adjusts to any current used thoughout the world.  The 90 Volt DC motor offers far more torque than the 1/2 HP AC/DC motors we used to use.  It is also much smoother and quieter.  An electronic circuit in the new speed control unit compensates for load, keeping the RPM more constant during cuts.  The elctronically controlled speed range of 70 to 2800 RPM requires no changes of gears or belts to achieve.  For even higher torque at low speeds when turning large parts, a second drive belt position is available on the motor drive and headstock pulleys.  By the way, to buy just a DC motor and speed control of this quality elsewhere could cost more than the entire machine!  The spindle nose has a standard #1 morse inside taper, 3/4" - 16 external threads.  Hole through spindle of .405" allows machining of long stock.

The deluxe model 5400 (5410 metric) package shown here comes equipped with all standard features upgraded to include a laser engraved 12" (305) mm) solid aluminum base, laser engraved scales on the "X" axis table, 2-1/2" (63mm) adjustable "zero" handwheels on the "X" and "Y" axes, a mill headstock spacer (P/N 1297) to provide more throat distance, and a drill chuck and drawbolt (P/N 3072).
